RAMU, COX’S BAZAR — In solidarity with the global campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), observed annually from 25 November to 10 December, Nari Shakti (Ramu Branch), supported by the Centre for Environment, Human Rights & Development Forum (CEHRDF), organized a grassroots Women’s Assembly in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar.

The assembly brought together community women, grassroots organizers, and human rights defenders to build collective momentum against systemic discrimination, domestic abuse, and social injustices faced by women in rural and vulnerable settings.

Reaffirming the imperative of women's agency in governance and peacebuilding, speakers highlighted the statement by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres:

"Women’s leadership and decision-making is not a favour to women; it is essential to peace and progress for all."

Addressing the assembly, participants underscored that sustainable community development remains unattainable without decisive action to eradicate gender-based violence. The dialogue focused on breaking the culture of silence around domestic abuse, securing accessible legal aid, enhancing economic resilience for marginalized women, and establishing safe institutional spaces for community leadership.

The gathering concluded with local leaders and activists pledging coordinated efforts to reinforce community vigilance, protect human dignity, and champion gender equality across every tier of local governance.
