COX’S BAZAR — To instill environmental consciousness from an early age and expand community green cover, the Centre for Environment, Human Rights & Development Forum (CEHRDF) organized a sapling distribution drive among the students of Larpara Government Primary School in Cox’s Bazar Sadar.
Under the initiative, primary school students received native and eco-friendly tree saplings alongside basic guidance on tree care and environmental stewardship. The campaign aimed to connect younger generations directly with climate mitigation efforts, transforming students into active environmental ambassadors within their households and neighborhoods.
Speakers at the event highlighted that fostering ecological responsibility in children is crucial for long-term climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and air quality improvement. Instilling a culture of tree planting at the grassroots level empowers youth to protect local ecosystems against ongoing environmental degradation and rapid urban expansion.
Reaffirming its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—specifically SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land)—and the core principle of "Leave No One Behind" (LNOB), CEHRDF emphasized that meaningful climate action begins with educating and mobilizing the youth. The forum announced plans to scale up similar environmental literacy and afforestation programs across educational institutions in the district.
